
Welcome to our Year 4 page! Here you will find information about the amazing things we will be learning about in class. We have two classes in Year 4, the adults are Miss O’Rourke, Mr Harrold, Miss Brazell and Mrs Greaves.
As we are the oldest children at The Orchards, we have lots of responsibilities in school these are: Head Girl, Head Boy, Head of School Council, Play Leaders, Sports Crew and Wellbeing Ambassadors.

Writing

Short film ‘Ruin’

In class, we’ve been using the short film Ruin to help us write more descriptively and build tension. We’ve been focusing on choosing vivid details, powerful vocabulary, and slowing down key moments to create suspense and draw the reader into the action.
Maths

In maths, we are looking at statistics and data.
In Year 4, we work really hard towards learning all of our times tables for our end of year ‘Multiplication Check’. Here are some useful links:

Foundation subjects

In science we will be learning about electricity.
In geography, we will be learning at volcanoes, especially The Ring of Fire in South America.
In history, we will be learning all about the Ancient Mayans.
During our art lessons, we will exploring the work of Keith Haring and creating a mural inspired by his artwork.
In RE we will be develop our understanding of Islam and thinking about how festivals and worship show what matters to Muslims.
Our French lessons will develop our vocabulary based on our birthdays.
In PSHE, we are learning about health and wellbeing and our changing bodies.
In our computing sessions, we will be exploring the world of coding.
During PE, we will be refining our throwing and catching skills within a handball unit and taking part in outdoor adventurous games.
