Regular attendance is essential for every child’s future. Parents and carers have a legal responsibility to ensure their child receives a full‑time education, and attending school every day plays a vital part in this.
At The Orchards School, we place a strong emphasis on excellent attendance from Nursery to Year 4. Once a child joins our school community, we expect them to attend regularly and arrive on time. We believe that every child deserves full access to education, and attending school each day is a key part of that entitlement.
We are committed to providing an inviting, nurturing environment where children feel safe, welcome and connected. By fostering a sense of belonging, we support every pupil to make strong academic progress and develop socially and emotionally. Our curriculum is designed so that all children feel recognised, included and empowered to succeed. Working in partnership with families, we aim to maintain high levels of attendance for every child.

The Department for Education (DfE) now collects attendance data twice daily, and this includes both authorised and unauthorised absences.
If your child is absent, you must notify the office as to the reason for absence. Please contact the office as soon as you are able, every morning of absence.
By law, all children of compulsory school age must receive a suitable full time education.
For most parents this means registering their child at a school.
Once your child is registered at our school you are legally responsible for making sure that they attend on a regular basis.
If your child does not attend school on a regular basis we will talk with you about this and make a plan to improve it. You could also be subject to a fine or to be prosecuted in court.
